History

Magnolias on Mernda is a 1940s hills home that has been carefully nurtured and restored to enhance its deep history, bringing a wonderful melding of old and new in a modern and cozy space.

As the fourth custodians of this home, Lyndall and Colin have dedicated themselves to lovingly preserve its beauty.

Lyndall first sighted MoM when working as a landscape designer on the property, falling in love with its charm and the gardens which have been developed over the years. When the opportunity to purchase it came up, the pair took the plunge and jumped straight in to putting their own stamp on the property. With a number of refurbishments and a complete style overhaul - including transforming the old shed into a stunning open bath house - Lyndall and Colin have poured their love into creating a special space to share with others.

Prof James Murray Parks and his wife Edwina were the previous owners of Magnolias on Mernda, which was their home for many years. Here, James would sit with views of the maples and magnolias, musing on his ideas for biomimicry in architecture and design. These ideas have lead him through an incredible career as a leading engineer and physicist, designing major landmarks such as Optus Stadium and the newly opened 108 in Melbourne - the tallest apartment building in the southern hemisphere.
